The weather has been so nice, that we have been able to be outside..well, the boys have. I have yet to wander out into the grass. Had my camera to take some before pictures of the patio and the boys were sitting there, so decided to take a few fun photos...
It's about me, the three boys in my life, a little crafting and the adventures that seem to happen each day...

Project or Phase Two..
We have decided to do some more landscaping around our back patio. I refer to it as phase 2...(photos are rough...didn't edit any of them!)

This is what the patio looks like as you walk out the sliding doors.

This is what it looked like when I got home from work yesterday. If you refer to the previous picture, I am standing by the large stone bench on the right. In this photo, you can see our patio on the left. We are putting in a flower bed, then a stone wall and then a recessed patio. You can see the beginning of the wall on the lower right corner. at the end of the shovels...you can see where one set of steps will be built.

What I am Scared of...
These darn snakes (all two sightings and one snake skin) are driving me crazy! After loads of conversations of why are you scared of snakes...and...what else are you scared of, i decided to share!
What scares me....snakes. When I was little I went on a stick collecting walk. Picking up all sorts of sticks. At one point, I picked up a stick and it went limp in my hand. It was a snake...NOT a stick...that is how is all started.
When something bothers me or scares me, my thighs ache (not in a good way.) I haven't sorted out if the last weeks aches are from being tense from seeing a snake shimmy across the sidewalk or from jumping up and down every time I go outside...I believe they can feel my vibrations and will go away from my instead of to me.
I am also scared of old men riding bicycles on the wrong side of the road with cards in their spokes...thanks to the movie "In the Mouth of Maddness." Jason and I will be driving down a dark road and I will say, "What would you do if an old man on a bike rode past us." We creep ourselves out.
Someone told me once of a story about a woman's whose uterus fell out...WHAT? I can't imagine being at the mall and suddenly, "pop!" Me: "Oops...just my uterus." SERIOUSLY? That frightens me!
Old mental/phyciatric hospitals scare me. yuck yuck yuck.
Unknown places...such as when you are traveling. While in chicago, we would turn a corner and I would whisper to jason, "we are going die!"
Now there is a difference between something that scares you and something that really bothers you..
Things that really bother me are:
My old neighbor!! (heehee)
Cuts or slices on the body...from paper, knives, anything that has the ability to slice the body.
Fish.
Vomit.
The movie "Freaks."
Glass elevators.
Eels. (surprise!)
Swamps.
Black ice.

Halloween Doodles....
The boys and I headed to the bookstore on Saturday. What better thing to do on a rainy day? Sam picked up a couple books he has had his eye on and Jack picked up these drawing books. We have spent the entire weekend doodleing!
This books gives you ideas for the pages and a start on your picture. For example, a page will say "Decorate the witches' hats" and then there are three different witch hats on the page to decorate. Another page is an empty haunted house and you get to draw in whatever you would like in the different room. Jack loves this book!
If you have or know kids, you need to get them an Ed Emberley drawing book. These are the best drawing books due to each drawing being based on simple shapes. It also shows the "illustrator" how to draw the image step by simple step. (An Ed Emberley book, a new drawing pad and markers would be the perfect Christmas gift!)
See how easy it is to draw!
So Jack and i filled our weekend with "Halloween Doodles" and drawing Ed Emberley figures in our doodles book! He then wanted to draw the spooky house, so a HUGE sheet of paper was on the menu!

Ewww and Cool at the same time...
These are "hand" soaps. I laughed when I first saw them and thought, "Those are bloody hell cool!" And then thought ewww. gross. But wouldn't they make the perfect conversation piece!

Yea Jack!!
A little wobbly at first and then there was no stopping him!
We were all out there cheering him on...Moose was right beside him!
He is still working on turning...at this time he can just go straight. It's kind-of funny! He has hit a few trees (not hard) and drove into the flower beds. Moose watched him wherever he went!

What I've Read....
This book is a big one (800 pages) and it took me sometime to read it...not because I didn't like it, but because summer was busy. Anyway, Jason kept telling me I had to read it and I said, "NO! YOU like vampire stuff...not me." I finally "gave in" and I must admit, it is now one of my top five favorite books. The first 200 pages sets up the entire story and at times felt as if the book drug on a bit. Basically, scientists find a "vampire" like virus in South America, bring it back to the states in an attempt to make the ultimate solider. It is tested on twelve men that are brought to a lab in Colorado. All twelve men are inmates on death row and literally have nothing to lose. The guys who go "recruit" the men have suddenly been assigned to bring in the next guinea pig...a six year old girl, named Amy. Well, needless to say, eventually the twelve "escape" and the virus is spread through humankind, nearly destroying the world. The book fast forwards to 100 years later. This is when the story really gets going. There are only a few surviving humans in a fort/compound and they must protect themselves from the virals, that hunt and come out only at night. One "day," they discover Amy, who is the same age as the virals (100), but is still a little girl who does not crave humans as the virals and can speak to the virals. They believe she is the answer to their survival and to the elimination of the virals. I loved this book, because you get to know the characters extremely well. It was one of those, for me, that I couldn't put down at night and tried so hard to stay awake to see what would happen next and actually looked forward to reading it each night.
I have been meaning to read this book for years! My mom brought me a copy and insisted it was time that I read it. I must say, it was nothing like I was expecting and glad that my mom insisted. What I loved about this book, was that it is set in the 1930s, but could actually take place in today's society. This book and its message is timeless. It reminds one, that standing for what you believe is difficult, at times, but extremely important...especially for your children.
This was an odd, quick little read. What first caught my attention was the vintage photos through out the book. Jacob, a teenager, has a special bond with his grandfather. While growing up, Jacob's grandfather shared outlandish "true" stories of his childhood on a remote island with Miss Peregrine and her peculiar children....he even has the photos (the vintage photographs) to back up the tales. One night, Jacob's grandfather is killed, but before he dies he tells Jacob to seek out the truth. This sets Jacob off to find the house of Miss Peregrine and the peculiar children. At first, this book creeped me out, but it is a fantasy tale...it was a fun read, but I don't know if I will continue to read the others in the series.

I am Up for the Challenge....
Head to the web site "Oh So Lovely" for all the details.
I have tried to do Ali Edwards "A Week in the Life," but have yet to ever finish a complete week, after three different tries. I think I can do this one, because it tells me what I have to take a picture of...and I can cheat and work ahead. Not that I condone cheating.
Anyone care to take the challenge with me?
