Pumpkins!

This year, we didn't have to go far to gather our pumpkins.

There is a place right around the corner from us selling pumpkins for THREE DOLLARS!!!

Sam and I headed over there one afternoon to load up on these orange delights!

The farmer has picked several of them before hand, so you can choose one out of the trailer or walk the patch and pick one of your own!

It is all on the honor system.  Large pumpkins are three dollars, medium to small are two dollars and loads of different color gourds are just a buck!!!

We choose a few off of the trailer, but who can say no to walking in the patch and picking your own?

Sam found the perfect carving pumpkin and then insisted on paying for it himself. (Yes, this huge pumpkin was only three dollars! I KNOW!!)  "You brought money?" I asked.  "I did," said Sam.

Sure enough, he did.  I offered to pay for his purchases, but he insisted on getting them on his own.

In case you were wondering where he kept his money...the bills where a little sweaty.

The Color Run!!

The Color Run finally came to town and we decided to participate as a family!

The morning of the run, Jack warmed up with a few bicep curls.  I think he could give Olivia Newton John a run for her money in the movie Xanadu!

We had to carry these packs of color for the color party at the end of the race.

I knew I would end up carry the boys' color packs, so I decided to duck tape them to the kiddos backs.  (They look like little drug packs!) Jason and I carried our packs in our socks.

Unfortunately, it was a very chilly day for the run. No problem..we wore loads of layers!

Sunglasses were on the list to keep the color dust our of the eyes, bandannas to keep the color our of our lungs, hats so our hair wouldn't turn a color (especially those who may color their hair on a regular base) and headbands so we looked like runners from the 70's!

 

Our race was to begin at 4:00pm. we waited in the crowd for 45 minutes!  Every 3-5 minutes, they would let 1000 runners begin the race.  We were in the 14th heat, so 13,000 people took off running before us! Crazy!!

Jack opted for the goggle look.

At about each 1k, there is a "color" area.  Volunteers have large ketchup looking bottles or Gatorade bottles filled with color (which is dyed cornstarch.)  As you "run" through these areas, the volunteers throw color at you. Here we are right after running through the orange color! Sam was so proud of how well he was able to get "colored."

 

The next color was blue and then we headed through the yellow.  You can see the "color run" area behind the boys.  The dust is everywhere!! The grass and sidewalks were so covered, that Sam rolled in the grass to get more color on his shirt and Jack made a "color" angle on the sidewalk.

When we finished the race, we celebrated by opening our color packets and throwing them up in the air together.  can you tell our packs were full of pink?  Good thing Jack had his goggles on!

You can see over Sam's shoulder what a pack looks like as it is being thrown in the air. The pictures look fuzzy, but that is actually what the air around us looked like!  Full of color dust!

 

Every 15 minutes, there was a count down for a color party.  We were actually suppose to throw our color at this time, but participating wasn't a problem.  This is a shot that a friend had on facebook showing how a color party looked like from above. You couldn't help but get more color on yourself!

Jack got loads of purple and green on himself from the party!

If Sam didn't wear his hat, his hair would have been awesome for school!

On the Sidelines with Jack...

Happy Anniversary!!

Happy Anniversary to my mom and dad!
My parents recently went on a trip to Italy and my dad loves to take pictures...of scenery...not people.  So I insisted that when in Italy they took pictures of the two of them together...I am so happy they follow directions!

An Unexpected Stay Home Day...

Jack didn't feel good on Monday morning, so I decided to keep him home for the day. The previous evening, he had finished reading the Captain Underpants series of books, (Yes, I know there are better books out there for him to read!) so he curled up with the book Ook and Gluk: The Adventures of Futuristic Cavemen (another book by the author who wrote the Captain Underpants books) and read all morning.  Perfect way to spend the morning when you aren't feeling up to par. No worries..by the afternoon, he was back to his oldself!

The other day, these little "men" were intently watching...something...

C3PO was one of the lucky "men" that got a reserved seat.

The "dude" between the Sponge Bobs was excited to watch what was going on...

All the "guys" had to buy tickers from this guy...which guy?  The guy holding the skull..hmmmm. Creepy.

And what were they so excited about watching...

Jack playing on the computer! 
I think I may have told Jack that he can't just play the computer...he needs to do something else besides just computer time.  I didn't know the "something else" was to create an audience, that had bought tickets, to watch a show...on the computer, that Jack was playing.  Go figure...
