Here We Go Again!

A few questions...

Why did I have these three pose for me by the house?
Why is there a snow fence in the background?

Why is this enormous digger coming down our lane?

Well...It has STARTED!!!
We have officially begun phase two of our home improvement...the addition!
We are so super excited!

This ginormous digger came down the lane..which wasn't easy...nothing is ever "easy" for our family!

The digger has metal tires, so in order not to gouge the lane, the workers had to leapfrog sheets of plywood. That means laying plywood down in front of the back hoe, the back hoe drives on it. The workers then pick up the plywood and put it back down in front of the back hoe. Amazingly it really didn't take that long!

Last summer we had the large hickory tree taken down knowing that we were playing with the idea of the addition. Today they took out the stump.  It was HUGE!!  The driver had to actually rock the digger back and forth to finally get it loosened and pulled out.

Then the digging began!
A shot from the window!

We had to take out loads and loads of dump trucks full of dirt!

A HUGE hole after a good days work!

Can you see the steps that the back hoe created for the workers to get in and out of the hole..and maybe two little boys that are dieing to get in there and check it out!

Oh. They left a little dirt behind for us to back fill some areas.

Such an exciting time, but also a bummer that my nap time will be cut into...but, it will be worth the lack of sleep!

Happy Birthday, Sam!

Today is a sad day.
It's the birthday that Sam officially runs out of fingers to show how old he is.
*sniff*
On the the other hand (haha) it's a good day!
Sam turns 11 years old today!
Happy Birthday, Sammy!

(Sam at three)

Everyone says that times does fly.
I completely agree.

Now I am going to go take a valium to calm myself.

Run, Sammy, Run!

On the HOTTEST day of the year...so far, Sam had his fifth grade track meet. Yep, I went in the 94 degree weather armed with sunscreen and my umbrella! Jason and I sat at the top and there was actually a nice breeze, but the kiddos just baked!

Anyway, back to the running...Where's Sam?

Sam finished first in his heat in the 100. The winners of each heat advanced to the final race. I love this picture of Sam.

Since his heat was the last heat, he had to run back down the track and prepare to run the 100 in the final. He barely had time to catch his breath..no, he was fine!  If you look closely at this picture, Sam is noticing that he is in lane 3.  He thinks he is to stay in lane three, which he is, but NOT THE LINES FOR THE CURVE!!  He is to run in the dotted lines!! Sam doesn't realize this and so...

BAM!! Right into the guy next to him.  The kiddo in the yellow was running between the dotted lines, which you are suppose to do. Meanwhile, Sam is running the curve and runs SMACK into the kid...not once, but twice! Jas looked at me and said, "Guess I never mentioned that one to him." Sam finished fifth overall and was super excited about his first track ribbon!

Here Jason in mentioning it to Sam. Sam is saying, "NO WAY!"

The next race he ran was the 400. Sam (and his dad) were so nervous!!

Sam started off slow...just like his dad directed him to do, but he got himself boxed into the first lane and couldn't get out.

He finally was able to work his way into lane 2 and start his big move!

Run, Sammy, Run!

He finished fifth in his heat, but didn't place overall. Sam was ok with that because it was his first 400.

Totally ok mom!!

Sam then ran the 200 of the last leg in the sprint medley.  Pulled at my heart strings..that was the exact same relay race I use to run in high school AND the same leg I ran!!

Off he went to chase down the kiddo in front of him!

Sam actually looked pretty strong in this race, if I do say so myself.  He finished behind this runner in yellow about one meter.  It was exciting to watch!  His relay team finished third overall, so another ribbon for Sam.

He also participated in the shot put.  He thought he was doing the long jump, but accidentally signed up for the shot put. "I had NO IDEA how to throw a shot put, Mom!"

Needless to say, after spending all day out in the 90 degree weather, he was beat!  He came home, took a shower, hit the couch and didn't move until super.

And I am proud to report, that Sam did not come home sunburned.  Sam not only has fair skin in these pictures, but he is so covered in sunscreen that it made him look even whiter!!

Jack Playing Some Flag Football...

Both boys are playing i9 flag football this spring. We love this league!  It is all about having fun...kids first before the win!  They each have a game on Sunday with a 45 minute practice before the game, so it isn't a huge commitment...just right for our family!

Jack had a huge run on Sunday.
looks like we are playing the zombie team again!!

We told him to keep running until he hears the whistle!

They finally got his flags!

He kept on running!

and then realized his flags were gone.

He played a little QB.

Handed the ball of to a teammate.

And told the teammate to be very careful when running to the end zone.

Jack did run for a touchdown and I missed the entire thing except for this one picture!

Passed the ball while being the QB...interesting form.

Oops...lost his mouth guard.

He then wondered what he should do about it..for about two seconds before he put it back into his mouth.

I hope I am wrong, but this looks like the beginning of the stink eye!

My Traveling End Table...

Sometimes I will lay down on the couch and get all comfy.

Well, just in case I may fall asleep...I put the phone and remote beside me....

Right on Moose.
I would hate for the phone or remote to fall on her,
in case I would happen to doze off, so I put them on her.
For safe keeping.
She doesn't mind.
She dozes with me and would hate to be startled awake by falling technology.

Ouch!

Nothing makes you prouder then when you are at a restaurant and your son yells,
"MOM! CHECK OUT THIS ALLIGATOR!"
and you turn around to see this...

Well, attention has already been brought to our family group, so why not take a photo!

Which leads to this...

and then you turn around and the hostess is giving you the stink eye because she has  been waiting to seat you.

I should have taken a picture of that!

WHY OH WHY???

I saw this on Pintrest. How to hard boil eggs in the oven with a muffin pan.
"That is a no brainer!" I told myself.
ANYONE can be successful with this one!

NOT!!!!

Seriously???? How in the H..E...double hockey sticks does this happen???  All I wanted was to hard boil some eggs and now i have something that looks as if it was laid by some diseased bird!!

I sure did get hit by the"Try if You Want, But You Won't Be Able to Cook Fairy!"

Down, Set, Jam....

Sam started flag football this week.
Flag football already???
Yep.
The team gets together once a week...for practice and then a game.
Sam LOVES flag football and was super excited to start playing.

And then....

Down...Set...

Chasing the guy down with the ball... He grabs the flag...

...and jam.

In this picture he is actually bent over holding his left thumb.
Sam jammed his thumb two years ago in football.
It was better by the end of football season last year and it didn't need wrapped.
Now it needs wrapped again.

Coach, AKA, Dad checking on his player, AKA son.
His thumb swelled up pretty good and he couldn't play the rest of the game.
But, a little ice...a little Tylenol...and he was good to go!

I worried about him while he stood on the sidelines.
I thought about going over and checking on him.
But I think the coach and the player would have had some words with me.
So I stayed in my chair.
Then "mommed" him all the way home...and at home!
